Ah, 2020! What a year this is turning out to be! One of the many challenges we’re facing is the pause of uncertain duration in large gatherings which of course includes our beloved Broadway theatre. Another challenge is the growth needed as a brighter light has been shone on racial injustice. These are some of the things that have shaped this edition in various ways, while we continue to celebrate Broadway more than ever, what it is and what it can be.

The 2020 edition features 129 core cards (75 full edition, 54 rare). We add to our Ensemblist, Golden Age, If It Only Even Runs A Minute, Off-Broadway, and Broadway Up Close Theater series; AND we add a special nine-card feature to add a little more Broadway love to the world! As far as super rare cards, we’ve expanded to SIX lenticular (“3D”) cards and TWO foil embossed cards along with 40 Squigs pencil sketch cards. Considering the pandemic and postal woes while planning the edition, there won’t be Giving Back cards in this edition, but we hope to create something special out-of-pack in the new year. We continue to celebrate the diversity that makes the world of Broadway so wonderful, and, most of all, we hope you have fun collecting, learning, and celebrating with us!

Our rare cards are just a bit less rare than they have been in the past, and one of the reasons is that we have this Broadway Love set awaiting you. The nine cards feature songs chosen from shows like Follies and A Chorus Line to Applause and Shuffle Along…, celebrating and yearning for what we love and miss about theatre. And one of the best things about this set is that when you collect all nine, they make up one image on the backs that proclaims “I LOVE BROADWAY!”

We’re pleased to bring you some fun and wistful Super Rare cards this edition. The foil-embossed cards feature 1. British spectacle of the 1980s (and early 90s) and 2. some of the Tony-winning costumes designed by Geoffrey Holder for The Wiz. Our six lenticular cards celebrate 1. the six roles that won Audra McDonald her Tonys, 2. six legendary performances by Chita Rivera, 3. three musicals put on pause in March (Company, Mrs. Doubtfire, Diana), 4. three more musicals put on pause (Flying Over Sunset, Sing Street, Caroline or Change), 5. Six, the show whose opening night was the first to be postponed, and 6. staircases of Broadway (Cabin in the Sky, Sunset Boulevard, Hello Dolly!). And there are 40 cards with rough original pencil sketches by Squigs hiding out there somewhere.
