2023
Attention, Lightcatchers! The 2023 Edition features 141 core cards (99 full edition, 42 rare). The primary cards feature actors, writers, directors, choreographers, and shows as usual; AND we once again have a special nine-card feature in the full-card roster. In the Rare roster, we add to our Golden Age, If It Only Even Runs A Minute, and Off-Broadway, along with a new series to replace our now-completed Theater series. We continue to celebrate the diversity of Broadway past, present, and future; and we also hope you have fun collecting, learning, and celebrating with us!
You can download the 2023 Edition Roster Checklist here.
This edition’s nine-card set features some of our favorite lights seen around the Broadway Theatre District (marquees, signs, and other sparkly things). When you collect all nine, and put them in the correct order, the backs will make up the poster image on the right that features several Broadway lyrics about light.
There will be a #hashtag challenge involving these cards: an interactive activity for prizes. Stay tuned!
And moving into our RARE cards, we’re happy to continue in our celebration of amazing designers and music department notables, stars of Broadway’s Golden Age, under-appreciated musicals and off-Broadway shows, and honors celebrating a premiere Broadway poster artist and a few notable chapters’ ends.
With the 2022 Edition, we completed our theater card collaboration with Broadway Up Close Tours that, over four Lights of Broadway editions, has resulted in featuring all 41 current Broadway theaters and five theaters of the past. Whew! But we so enjoyed our collaboration with Broadway Up Close that we’ve kept the party going with a new series: Theatre Lore! Stories of traditions and innovations and superstitions and ghosts. Writing by BUC’s Tim Dolan, illustrations by Squigs.
We’ve got some fun Super Rare cards for you! The foils cards feature Back to the Future’s DeLorean and Here Lies Love. The Lenticular (tilt) cards feature the roles of Andre de Shields, Bob Fosse, the Fanny Brices of Funny Girl, the Nellie Lovetts of Sweeney Todd, Squigs’ Process (showing the sketch of Peter Pan Goes Wrong in pencil, ink, and full color phases), and the Sweeney Todds of Sweeney Todd. And as usual, there are 40 sketch cards featuring one-of-a-kind pencil sketches by Squigs.
